Android has now publically declared the arrival of its latest operating system, Android 4.1. Previous versions of the Android platform have all been easy targets for Android spy software. On many occasions it was Google Play which was accused of not having a strong enough filtration system to keep out mobile spy infected apps. The problem of compromised apps being spread easily is one matter and the fact that Androids operating system itself does not offer users a lot of security or privacy is another concern.

Android spy software and mobile spy apps for all platforms in general are increasing not only in number but also in how good they are at what they do. If the operating systems which we use on smart phones are unable to control the security situation then the next best bet is to go for a good security application. Even in just the security category you will come across hundreds of thousands of applications, providing all kinds of features and functions.

Lookout Mobile security
The security suite offered by Lookout is probably one of the best options there is. This app provides you with features one would normally expect to find on a much more expensive app considering that Lookout is providing their Mobile Security app for free. For example backing up data from your phone to the cloud and being able to remotely locate and control your device, are two very valuable features. Of course the basic version is free and if you want to get your hands on even more in depth feature you can choose to go for the premium version of the app which will cost you $2.99 a month.

Norton
Next up is the very well known name in security application development, Norton. Though Norton is rather new to mobile device security it has still put out an interesting security app for smart phones. This security suite doesn’t have an anti virus scanner much like it PC counterpart but it does offer some very good online protection. You can browse the internet from your smart phone and Norton will prompt you whenever there may be a risk visiting a site, keeping you safe from scams such as phishing. Another less common feature is the ability to locate and remotely control your phone through SMS’s rather than the traditional GPS locator. It also gives you the option to block both calls and texts from specific numbers. However even with its impressive capabilities it is a little pricey at $19.99.

Appscan Beta
Other than having a serious security solution in case something happens to your phone you may also want to consider having a good anti spy ware and malware scanner. As has been the case in the past, many apps from third parties can be infected with malware and in this case stealing your phone is no longer necessary as your data and information is stolen directly from the phone. Appscan is a free tool which you can download and run on your device to scan for spyware or malware. Appscan has a large library of listed malware and spyware treats, by keeping the app up to date you can be sure that malware will be filtered out from your device if there is any.

More so the app can also generate a log showing you traffic statistics of network usage by both the device and applications.

These are some well reviewed and popular apps which can be very handy to have on your device, even if you plan on getting a Jelly Bean device, it would still be a good idea to have a security app or two running in the background.
