Facebook has confirmed their upcoming location based feature which they are all set to launch shortly.
The code is to be found on their site http://touch.facebook.com/ .
However Facebook has issued a statement saying that
“no marketers will be part of the launch”, although it did not rule out forming such partnerships in the future.”We have been working on a location feature for a while but don’t have immediate plans to announce anything,”.
We are aware that Twitter announced their location feature in March and now they are giving their users option to turn on the feature but not exactly forcing their users to turn on their location feature.
I think Facebook should let users optionally share their location information, where users will have their right to privacy.
It is believed that McDonald’s is already in discussions with Facebook to use the feature to increase business.
McDonald’s will use the application to reach near local stores and allow them to share eating experiences with friends.
There is an on-going debate that whether Facebook’s new location feature will replace the need of Gowalla and Foursquare which are proven location-based social network market.Facebook’s desire to track location is based on the massive marketing opportunity provided by such services.
Do share your views about this new location-feature of Facebook !

Facebook seems to be on a ball and keep rolling out new features thanks for the heads up Shabnam

Thats a good news. It will also help bloggers like us in making people of specific location aware of our articles and blogs. Well being said that i did not mean that we will spam them

Yes, privacy has been a concern with Facebook.
This location feature is likely to be a good move from facebook. I think it will be quite similar to Twitter’s Geotagging feature. lets us wait and watch

Yes, i hope that they won’t force users to disclose their locations .
Good news for users (somewhat bad also if we see in the sense of privacy) but totally bad news for Foursquare and Gowalla

Well, this feature would be really helpful, but I think fb will soon die.
The new location feature will have two aspects, according to the people familiar with Facebook’s plans. One will be a service offered directly by Facebook that will allow users to share their location information with friends.

But the disadvantage is that Facebook does not really care about the user’s privacy and other details
