Reports from New York Times suggests that Facebook is planning to come up with smartphone in 2013 and has hired employees who have worked on iPhone and iPad.

Last year in November there were rumors regarding Facebook Phone code-named “Buffy” where Facebook partnered with HTC to build phones based on Android OS.

Mark Zukerberg is planning to do more than just creating apps for other mobile platforms.

“Mark is worried that if he doesn’t create a mobile phone in the near future that Facebook will simply become an app on other mobile platforms,” a Facebook employee said.

Business Insider reports that Facebook is building apps required for a smartphone such as Facebook messages, Facebook Camera and Facebook App Store.
