Image Optimisation tips for your blog

Most of the time we spend on writing contents for our blog and forget about image optimisation.

Here are few points for optimising your images:

1.Add SEO friendly image names: Most blogs are not optimised for images and the images are named as image1.jpg or image2.jpg and so on which makes no sense to search engine. You need to rename your images,if your image say is related to a digital camera then rename it something like Canon-EOS-500D Kit.You need to rename your images which are meaningful and relevant to your context.

2.Alt tag : Alt tags gives more information about the image to the search engine.Considering the above example of Canon Digital Camera alt tag will be something like – alt=”Canon-EOS-500 Kit Front View”.

3. Placement of images: When placing the image in a blog post it is advisable to add the image to the relevant content as the search engines usually read the text surrounding it.

Here in Techiezlounge i have not yet done image optimisation in a proper way as i am not using alt tag, need to work on it.

If image optimisation is done properly you can get some good traffic via image search.

Well, these are very useful tips. I remember I was taught about the same during my seo training. Image Optimization is an important part of SEO process and so it shouldn’t be taken lightly. If done properly, it can really fetch some good traffic. It is advisable that whenever you optimize an image, make sure that you are putting all relevant keywords in the alt tag. Also from what I know, the total number of characters to be used in alt tag for keywords depends upon the size of the image. If you have small image then put less keyword phrases and if large image then you should put more keyword phrases.

Nice and useful tips. Images definitely is a sureshot way to attract reader attention, but using these tips you can also rank better in google. Only one suggestion, title of the post seems to be bit misleading. If you could put SEO tips for images or something similar, it will be more appropriate and helpful from the point of view of Google ranking as well.

    Keep it up!

You missed one main thing about ALT tag Shabnam :) The main advantage of ALT tag is when your image is not loaded properly whatever ALT tag you have added will be shown and the visitor will be known what you wanted to show up there. So whenever search engine visits it will check with ALT tag :) But very useful post Shabnam! I can see many didn’t knew about this!
