Instead of using relatively unreliable wifi, the service works by utilizing a plug server and ethernet cable tied to an electronic lock. Lockitron also has an NFC option if you’ve got a Nexus S or are planning on buying a iPhone 5 if/when NFC happens. The system works with both deadbolt and handle locks.

The app is priced between $295 to $500 and is available for US users.

Co-founder Paul Gerhardt says: “I wanted to be able to email a key or text a key to somebody else, the technology was there, it just needed a good experience on top of it.”

With Lockitron you can generate multiple keys and send them to your friend and family to unlock the door of your home if locked.
