VLC Media Player is one of the most popular Open source Media Player available.
Earlier, VLC Media PLayer for iOS was also released but since it is an Open source it had to be pulled off since Apple’s App Store is a closed one. However, you can download it from Cydia.
VLC Media Player for Android is being released which is a pre – alpha build by developer CVPCS, the guy behind Cyanogen Mod 7 on Motorola Droid X.
The developer has released two pre- alpha builds of VLC Media Player for Android,NEON and NONEON.You will have to find out the build which your device supports. To find the build which is supported by your device you will have to use ADB or File Manager to search for the file called /proc/cpuinfo.If you see NEON written in your file then you need to download the NEON version otherwise you will have to download the NONEON version of the VLC Media pre-Alpha build.
When you do, you’ll see something like this:
Processor : ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7l)
processor : 0
BogoMIPS : 1597.74
Features : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp thumbee neon vfpv3

CPU variant : 0×1
CPU part : 0xc09
CPU revision : 2

If you see the word neon on the Features line, then your device supports NEON extensions. If it’s not there, then you’ll have to use the NONEON variant of VLC.
If you want to build your own VLC for Android package then the developer has provided the information which you can find here.
Since, it is a pre – alpha release you won’t get any support and might encounter bugs or some stability issues but it will for sure improve with time.
