7 Awesome Android N Features You Should Know

Google has released Android N Developer Preview for Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player and Pixel C devices. Google will be officially announcing Android N at Google’s annual developer conference starting May 18, 2016.

You can go ahead to install Android N Preview on your compatible devices to try out the features of Google’s upcoming Android 7.0. But before installing Android N Preview on your Nexus devices make sure to go through the known issues of Android N Preview.

Android N will be launched along with the Nexus 6P (2016) and Nexus 5X (2016) in September.  Android N may be called Nutella or Nougat.

7 Awesome Android N Features You Should Know

1.  Multi-Window Mode

Android N is coming up with much needed Multi-window mode support which will allow users to open two apps on the screen at once showing them side-by-side or one-above-the-other  depending on if you are in portrait or landscape mode. This feature was already there in Samsung and LG devices.

Google will also be adding new picture-in-picture mode which will allow you to watch YouTube while browsing web on your Android device.

 

2.  Improved Doze Mode

Doze Mode was introduced in Android 6.0 Marshmallow which saves battery life on Android when in idle state by disabling apps and limiting background processes which consumes battery. The Doze Mode on Android N will work also when your device is in your pockets. However, by turning on the screen or plugging in the device it will bring the device out of Doze.

3.  Bundled Notifications

Android N will be coming with a new bundled notifications features where users will be able to get notifications from the same app together. You will be able to read notifications from the same group of apps just by swiping the fingers or tapping on the bundle.

 

4.  Direct Reply Notifications 

Direct reply notifications is a feature similar to Apple’s iOS. With Android N you will be able to reply to text messages from the notification shade itself. You will just have to drag down the pop-up alert of the message notifications and type in the reply without leaving the app.

5.  New Data Saver Feature 

The new data saver feature when enabled will help in reducing cellular data use by apps. Data Saver mode is enabled in Settings, the system will block background data and will also signal apps to use less data “wherever possible.” Users can also set exceptions for specific apps to run in the background when Data Saver mode is on.

6.  Background Optimizations

Android N comes with Project Svelte with an effort to reduce the memory requirement of Android so that it can run on more devices and making background processes more efficient.

 

7.  Night Mode 

Apple has introduced Night Shift in iOS 9.3 and now Android will also get similar Night Mode. Users will be able to activate Night Mode on their Android automatically which will adjust the amount of blue light in the display which will allow you to sleep easily.
