Samsung Announces The Galaxy S5 – Specs, Availability, Price and More


Samsung has now finally announced the launch of Galaxy S5 at Samsung’s Unpacked5 event, at MWC 2014 in Barcelona. The Next Big Thing, Galaxy S5 is packed with more powerful features. Read on for features, specs, availability and price of the most anticipated device by the Korean giant.

Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 5.1-inch full HD AMOLED, 1920×1080 display, powered by a 2.5GHz quadcore processor along with a 2 GB RAM, internal storage of either 16GB or 32GB and running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Samsung latest device is extremely light weighing only 145 grams.


The Galaxy S5 comes with a fingerprint reader on the home button like Apple’s iPhone 5S which requires a swipe gesture to register a finger print and to make mobile payments, a heart rate monitor around back near the camera flash to track your pulse and provide the readings in S Health 3.0. The Galaxy S5 is also dust and water resistant with and comes with IP67.



It has a 16-megapixel rear facing camera can shoot 4K UHD video at 30 frames per second and 1080p FHD video at 60 frames per second. Samsung has added features to which includes HDR (Rich Tone) along with Selective Focus, Virtual Tour Shot, Shot&More camera modes.

It is also equipped with Kids Mode and Private Mode to the smartphone. Private Mode lets the users to keep a private profile in the device which can be accessed only by the owner of the smartphone using the fingerprint scanner or a password. Whereas, the Kids Mode when turned on lets your kids to play only games which are specific for kids and will not reveal your stored personal data.

Galaxy S5 comes packed with a 2800mAh battery which is enough for 10 hours of internet surfing and 12 hours of video play back. It has also introduced Ultra Power Saving Mode which provides extra battery life of full day.

Galaxy S5 will be launched worldwide starting April 11, 2014 in 150 countries on major carriers. In the U.S. it will be available via Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile, Verizon along with MetrPCS and US Cellular. For the U.K., EE, Three and Vodafone UK will offer the device along with retailers like Phones4u and Carphone Warehouse. Carriers will also be offering new wearables — the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo along with Galaxy S5.

The latest smartphone by Samsung will be available at launch in colors such as Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold. There is no official announcement regarding the pricing details, however, unlocked version of Galaxy S5 is expected to be price above $600.
